A late run of mahimahi and the beginning of our Christmas run of yellowfin tuna have been the highlights this last month.
Team Troppo reports good catches of mahimahi coming from ‘The Paddock’, the area between the first and second drop-offs south of Apia FAD. Yellowfin tuna to 30kg and sailfish have also been in the mix.
Anglers have also been landing a few blue marlin west of Apia along the 2000m line. Inshore, the spanish mackerel have been schooling in big numbers, with some boats landing multiple fish to 20kg in short, frantic sessions along the edge of the reef.

As we head into the new year, the blue marlin will come on strong and yellowfin tuna to 80kg will be patrolling the crystal clear waters between the 2000m and 4000m drop-offs. In close, sailfish, spaniards, and wahoo will be on the bite while the GTs and doggies will be hanging over the bombies and seamounts outside the fringing reefs, ready to provide plenty of action.
