A few mahimahi are turning up to accompany the yellowfin.
Yellowfin tuna have been our mainstay over the festive season and as we head into February this looks like it will continue.
Most of the best action has been on the three offshore FADs with fish to 50kg being taken. The best catches have been at first light, however there have still been some beauties taken midmorning and at dusk.
The sharks that were previously plaguing these FADs seem to have moved on – most likely with a couple of whale sharks that passed through recently with a huge baitball and accompanying entourage of tuna.
While wahoo and mahimahi numbers are low as expected this time of the year, we are still picking a few up now and then. My visiting son managed to snag a nice mahimahi on an evening run through a tuna workup as part of a quadruple hookup with three yellowfin tuna.
