TREVALLY ON LURES
TREVALLY ON LURES
I love fishing with lures and sometimes wish we had a wider range of medium-sized sportfish species available in new zealand. But then again, with modern lure techniques, a great many species that were once considered only able to be caught with bait are now regularly taken on artificial lures of one type or another. As most fish make a living by eating other types of marine animals, it is really only a matter of finding the right buttons to press.

FISH LEATHER? YEP, IT’S A THING!
FISH LEATHER? YEP, IT’S A THING!
Commercial fishing, like any business, operates with the underlying goal of generating more revenue and increasing profit margins. There have been longstanding concerns that commercial fishers are harvesting at rates that exceed the ability for fish populations to be replenished. This can have devastating impacts on the delicate balance of our oceans.

A JOURNEY FROM KAHAWAI TO KINGFISH
A JOURNEY FROM KAHAWAI TO KINGFISH

THE HAURAKI GULF IS STRUGGLING
THE HAURAKI GULF IS STRUGGLING
You don’t have to be a scientist to notice changes in the hauraki gulf marine park. There are fewer workups with seabirds swooping into the water, and if you’re fishing it’s increasingly uncommon to reel in anything other than a snapper.

THE SNAPPER CUP at the Top of the South
Fishing with family is so important – not only do you get to spend quality time with loved ones, but you create great memories, get away from the madness back on land, strengthen relationships and connect with nature. I have fished all my life with family, starting from an early age fishing with my dad and brother, to now fishing with my wife and daughter. Being able to share my passion for boats and the marine environment with loved ones is so important to me.
